5 REASONS TO ATTEND THE SCM AWARDS

Last year I attended the SCM awards for the first time. I’d heard about it and even seen different things via my social media outlets but had never experienced the SCMs for myself. I had a million different things I was scheduled to do on the date the awards were set last year, and although I wanted to be there, I mentally excused myself because of my other obligations. I thought about it though and my strong belief in the power of networking (as well as my good common sense lol ) asked the question : ok bitch so where else are u gonna get Tony Neal, Bigga Rankin, Hot Boy Turk, La Chat, and on and on in the same building for 20 dollars?! I’m so glad I made that trip! My passion for sharing that experience has motivated me to compile this list (in no particular order) for some of you who may still be on the fence about checking it out.

Bigga Rankin is hosting!!!! I mean really after that who needs any other reason to fall through? Bigga Rankin is the founder of The Cool Running DJs and noted as one of the most decorated record breakers in the industry! One of the great things about the SCMs is the atmosphere is very “network” friendly, and an opportunity to network amongst a legend like Bigga is definitely a reason to come out.

2. Trina is hosting & performing!! Yasssssss the baddest bitch herself is adding a Lil sexy to the ceremony by not only hosting alongside Bigga Rankin but she’s also hitting the stage!! There are several dope performances slated for the night including LaChat & Misc the Boss as well as several other dope artists.

3. The SCMs are held during the annual Memphis in May festivals

Memphis in May is a month-long festival held in Memphis, Tennessee. The festival itself is split into three main events: The Beale Street Music Festival, the kick-off event which showcases a mix of local and national music acts, International Week, a group of events dedicated to the country that is sponsored that year, and the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, one of the most popular barbecue contest in the country and this year will mark its 40th anniversary! If you were already planning to visit Memphis for Memphis in May what better weekend to visit than May 14th? There’ll be so much to do and the SCMs will definitely highlight your experience.

4. Location Location Location! The Minglewood Hall is breath-taking!

Located inside a historical building in the heart of Midtown Memphis, Minglewood Hall has a sexy and sophisticated charm. The 13,000-square-foot facility can accommodate up to 1,500 guests and eludes a one of a kind ambiance via its state-of-the-art LED lighting throughout the room.

5. You get allll that AND SOME for only 20 bucks!!

I could go on and on about the awesome networking opportunity… the special invited guests, the dope performances, the radio stations that are confirmed I mean like really on and on but I think you get the point. The SCM Awards is an annual awards ceremony that recognizes the achievements of underground, independent and major Hip-Hop and R&B Artists, music producers, video producers, record labels, business owners, models, graphic designers, tattoo artists, and more.
