Diddy Announces He’s Retiring

After 26 years of developing some of the world’s biggest artists and producing platinum hit-records, Sean Combs has announced that he is retiring from the music business. The 46-year-old father of six went public about his farewell in an interview with Cigar Aficionado Magazine, stating that he intends to shift his focus towards doing films full-time. The plan, according to Diddy, is to come full circle with the release of No Way Out 2, a sequel to his 1997 debut.

“I want to stop at a great place,” he said. “And a final album is a great place to stop. I want to take a victory lap, to do a world tour and really enjoy it once last time,” said Combs.

He has played roles in such films as Carlito’s Way, Get Him to the Greek, and Draft Day, he is perhaps most notable for his role as actor/producer of 2008’s remake of A Raisin in the Sun. And he will have plenty more time to work on it, as Bad Boy Entertainment does oversee a movie production company. In the meantime, there is still plenty of work on his plate in the music industry. May 20th kicks off the Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour, and along with Pharrell Williams, Diddy will be active as an adviser for season 10 of The Voice.

The pioneer executive transitions with a reported net worth of $735 million, having sold over 225 million records, and has played a pivotal role in the music careers of The L.O.X., The Notorious B.I.G., and Ma$e, among others. He is just as notable for expanding hip-hop’s influence into other industries, and vise versa, as well as introducing other industries into hip-hop with his ventures into fashion and alcohol.

“When I’m gone, only the songs will survive. I know I’m making music that will live on. I don’t go into the studio just to be hot or to hear myself on the radio,” Diddy told the magazine. “Michael Jackson, Tupac, Biggie – part of them lives on in their music, even though they’re not here anymore. That’s really deep, man. The only thing like that is religion.”
