In a huge surprise to everyone in Los Angeles, rap superstar Eminem reveals in a new interview that he is moving to the Baltimore, Maryland area. He tells the magazine that he is “tired of the L.A. lifestyle” and is looking for a big change in life.

“I’m just tired of the L.A. lifestyle and I feel like, at this point in my life, I’d rather just live in a place full of real, genuine people. I’ve been to Baltimore a couple of times over the years and the people there are real… they’re genuine, and yeah every community has its problems but the people there are good, decent people and they care about their community. Those are the things I find most important in deciding where to live,” Eminem told the magazine.

  4. Baltimore has so much history and beautiful places. You are right we do care about our community. I’ve been living here my entire life and I’m still visiting places for the first time. I think that you are an inspiration to a lot of rappers out there and you did an amazing job as a rapper, producer and everything else I do hope you enjoy Baltimore and welcome.

  9. Hey Em, Welcome to Baltimore Hon. When you come, you know you need someone to keep ya head fresh. My hubby is a great barber. Look him up on facebook Matthew Sutton, or email him at matthew.sutton1978@gmail.com. He cuts all types of hair, ethnicities, etc. He would love to hook ya up! Anyways, my father used to be the Assistant Chief of Operations fir the entire Baltimore City Fire Department and Im sure if you needed a tour of the who, what, when, and where or Baltimore and its surrounding areas (I live south of the city in Anne Arundel County) he would be happy to do so. He entertained John Travolta, Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Patrick and Jacinda Barrett when the filmed Ladder 49 here in town and has done so for other celebrities. Where we live, in Anne Arundel County…people such as Ravens and Orioles players, Pat Sajak, and other known celebrities have had homes here. We are on a peninsula, surrounded by water…we fish, party, swim, and have bonfires…down-to-earth round here. We also have a place called Gibson Island at the furthest point by the water. Its an Island with very wealthy homes that can only be entered by passing through the guard booth and identifying yourself. Very nice and surrounded by water. So…hope you have a great experience here and look us up if you need us.

  10. This can’t be serious….BALTIMORE! Please its such a stink hole here…7 more years to retire and I’m heading back home to the west where Marshal Mather’s should stay.

  11. Way to go us Baltimore ppl have pride in our city and we sure love us some Slim Shady and we will be glad to have u as a resident

  12. Not to mention Baltimore has two of the most awesome sports teams, one of which used his song “Lose Yourself” when they players took the field.

  13. Hey Em, I am one of your biggest fans. I think Baltimore is a great place to live. I am a Baltimore city police officer and I’ve seen almost everything here in Baltimore from the good to the bad. Baltimore is a great place to live, we have a lot of history and great places to eat. I hope I get to meet you if you come to town. Oh and by the way I am about to retire from the police department soon so if you need a bodyguard I’m your man. God bless

    1. I’m sure his first order of business will be to seek out the BCPD and get a list of all their washed up retirees so he can choose a new bodyguard. Ya know because he left his decent bodyguards in LA. The ones that he pays to put their lives on the line for him if need be, why would he want them to come? Or have whatever agency found his LA gaurds set him up.? Nope. he is gonna read this and want you….Matter of fact. Are all of you fucking people serious? You hear some bullshit thru a grapevine that a celebrity is moving from LA to Baltimore. That should be bullshit red flag number one. People spend their lives trying to get out of this fucking place. Not get rich and make a permanent move here. And okay lets say its for real? His Barber? His Cook? His bodyguard?, personal trainer?, oh and don’t forget his Baltimore version of yellow wolf up there. Lol. “I’ve always seen myself signed with aftermath”. Me too dawg. Me too!….didn’t mean to single you out Mr. Cop but by the time I read your bullshit I had enough!

  14. IF this was true, that would be bad ass& for him to see good still in our city. The Baltimoreins welcome you Em.”B_More baby!”

  15. Damn. That’s cool if this is true and hopefully of that’s the case, he finds some new talent to mentor from his new home.

  16. I think it will be a great advantage for Baltimore that will hopefully stop the badmouthing of MY beautiful city .. Yes , we are friendly people. Not everyone has realized that but we have a lot of history , the beautiful Chesapeake Bay , Ocean City …wonderful restaraunts … BALTIMORE WELCOMES YOU WITH OPEN ARMS , SIR !

  17. There are plenty of ‘real’ people here in L.A. It depends on who you hang out with, and where. Just like any other place.

  18. Welcome to Baltimore!! We have amazing nightlife, restaurants ( no chains!), and friendly people. We’re happy to have you!

  19. Welcome in advance, Baltimore is a dream destination for real folks who want to live in a community that celebrates creativity and individualism but also collabortion and social consciousness. 24. We are real! No doubt. On a side note, I teach a portrait drawing unit each semester to 8th graders, and the celebrity that is drawn most often is Eminem. For six years running! Wait til I tell them: Guess who’s moving to Bmore? 😉

  25. Just pick anywhere but that armpit city and area, born in Baltimore and moved away soon as I found my senses. People small minded and rude with inferiority complexes. Boring, also. The people are not attractive at all comparatively to other places I’ve lived. Baltimore is about bars, churches, greed, rudeness and racial problems. Not much ro do or look at either.

    1. I’m sure everyone is glad your gone!! If you don’t have anything nice to say it’s best just to shut your trap… One less ignorant person in my city!!

  26. Come this way. This is a great area to live.I believe totally you will be able to start something new here.Props to you for seeing this is a great city.

  27. Come this way. This is a great area to live.I believe totally you will be able to start something new here.Props to you for seeing this is a great city.I hope being here inspires your music. Most of all I hope you find an area you can make home.

  28. He is definitely welcome real people love Eminem…. the character of person he is says a lot…. how he views things is a lot like the way that we look at things. …so yeah Marshall would be a great fit for Baltimore… and thanks for keeping it real. … this is coming from a real fan of hip-hop…. (Pharolife )

  29. This is why I decided to stay in Baltimore after moving here 11 years ago. There is heart and character, strong neighborhood identity that makes each nook and cranny an anchor for the city, and a vibrant edgy art scene.

  30. This is great! Maybe it will help the Baltimore rappers get in the game!! I hope it will there is a lot of talented people here.

  31. Dear Mr. Mathers,
My wife and I would like to welcome you to the Baltimore area. We have a large family (8 kids altogether), and would love to have you over on meatloaf night. After dinner I would enjoy a sensible cypher battle ( this is why I’d prefer to not have you over on a Tuesday night – spaghetti dinner, I’ve heard what you can do with that in the raps). Either way welcome to B-more, and I look forward to an enjoyable evening.
    Yours truly,
    Matt & Regina

P.s. If you’re not a fan of meatloaf we have a wonderful pork roast with potatoes, carrots, celery and onions in the crock pit on Saturdays.

  32. Eminem,

Welcome to Baltimore! Baltimore is a great city with a lot of great people who care. We would benefit from your star power to bring more awareness of the injustice here. Please visit my Facebook page, there you can find some quick start information on the issues in Baltimore. Not to scare you off, I think crisis presents opportunities. It’s all perspective. I am sure you can appreciate it. Look forward to hearing from you!

  35. I live near bmore and its not a nice place its the number 6 city in america for crime and murders…I mean look how they treated their city over the freddie gray thing..they destroyed where they live to prove a point in a negative way..

  36. It hurts here,,our history,,the flight of good jobs for the working man,,the racial unrest, the prison industrial complex,, but it makes for good musi, art and food. It is where the pain and poetry lives,,and dies. Welcome. I’m sure you will dig up a nugget.

  37. I think that,s awesome , i grew up in Baltimore city, and i never had a prob, it don,t matter where you good shit gonna happen good and bad …. just keep it real and be safe, i now live in p.a …. btw i love your movie….

  38. I would just like to shake the man’s hand and kick it with him for a day dude has helped me through a lot with his music I’m not no crazed fan trying to rip his clothes off him n steal his shoes n chain lmao

  41. If you have been to Baltimore then you know what it is like. Just keep an open mind. If you are looking to fit in a community my house is for sale. I think you would fit in perfectly. And not adk fir much for my house. Been there all my life looking for a change I love Eminem.

  42. Welcome to the Baltimore cesspool! You’ll live longer if you live in the surrounding counties. Crime is rampant and Baltimore is a riot! I would not go in past the beltway because the quality of life sucks for city dwellers.

  43. So many people make Baltimore out to be such a horrible place, every state has it’s good and bad! I take pride in my city, alot of beautiful places to see. Plus my husband and I are huge fans of his since day 1

  44. Thanks for acknowledging our great city and welcome, if need a good real estate broker consider KLR@RealEstate.com, if you want a good indoor cycling workout consider Club De Cycle, we often close sessions with Lose Yourself.

  45. Em! Hope it’s true-I’ll show you where bills friends are and I’m certain you will bring a wave of change and good vibes with you. Bmore was a lot like Detroit about 15 years ago I hear and I bet you will feel right at home in Charm City…there is a lot of opprutunity here to grow and blossom into the next stage. This town has taken me apart and put me back together many times and I’m grateful for it all-now! Good on you!

  46. there is a house in my neighborhood for sale, i would be glad to show your around, i’m in harford county so a few miles from Balto. but close enough. this is a close knit community out here and we would welcome you with open arms. hit me up on fb.

  47. I’m previously from Baltimore and now only an hour and a half away. Every community has its ups and its downs Marshall, however, I don’t miss the traffic etc. I found people in WV are much dealer genuine people!!! Good luck on your move babe 😘

  48. Hey babe,
How are you? I just wanted you to know that I’m very proud of you. ..where in Baltimore if you don’t mind me asking. Keep up the good work

  49. I must say, I am in my mid-sixties and am an ABSOLUTE FAN! I’m not much into rap, however, you make absolute sense, and I absolutely love your movie, “8-mile!” Great flick (which I own on both DVD and Blue-Ray)! Welcome to Baltimore and if you ever need anything, please, please feel free to contact me! Seriously! I am VERY active in the NA field and know tons of places and events around the entire Baltimore area, especially the West-Side! I’d be honored to get together sometime and pick your brain! I look forward to a new “positive” influence and addition to the already “positive” Baltimore scene! I AM PSYCHED!!

  50. Hey Brother; Welcome to Baltimore! You’re gonna love it here! I am in my mid-sixties and am a absolute fabulous fan of yours! Your music and rap lyrics are beyond any others and on a totally different level! I absolutely love your movie, “8 Mile” and I have it on both Blue-Ray and DVD! I have seen it many, many times! I am an active (very) of the fellowship that you rapped about on your “Recovery” album and if you wish to get the inside skinny on great places, people of the same line of thinking, please, please, get in touch with me! I’d really love to show you around and maybe pick your brain a bit! Just e-mail me and we are off to the races, if you will! Anyway, may Peace, Love, Joy, and Happiness be with, and in, your every breath and with your every step on your journey through life and in recovery! Thom Shea; thomshea.ts@gmail.com! Welcome home, brother, welcome home!

  51. Thanks for the positive comments about Baltimore and Baltimoreans. I teach in City schools and we have been studying media portrayals of Baltimore, and your comments will help counteract all the unwarranted negativity.

And hell yeah, you living here!

  52. I’m glad he’s making this decision. I’m a Baltimore Maryland resident myself and I’m very amused by the fact he’s coming to leave here instead of anywhere else. Maybe we could become best friends. Lol, never know.

  53. First of all, love you Marshall. Welcome you with open arms. My opinion Baltimore is definitely a bad choice to live but again welcome sweetie. See you around soon..

  54. I think he’s crazy as hell to wanna live in this dirty filthy raggedy ass ratchet city where all they do is kill each other every damn day. Go somewhere in the county where u don’t have to watch ur back every minute of the day. Baltimore is a horrible place to live!!!

  55. I think that is awesome…. I was born and raised in Baltimore…. And yes our community has its issues but this a great City and we would love to have Eminem become apart of Charm City

  56. Get at me brother, Ill pass my contact info to you thru Meech Wells, Snoop’s studio man. We lost contact after we both changed #s brother. Get at me Em, we spoke about colaborating a while back chief. Lets make it happen brother.
In the meantime, get at me here blazincaucasianbc@gmail.com
if you need anything here in Bmore before we link up. Amped for you to come thru!

  57. I am from Baltimore and have been living in Miami for 10 years and nothing will ware on you more than the fake shit of LA and Miami. Bmore is the realest!

  58. Welcome to Baltimore! Every city has its problems, but we have so many good things, they outweigh the bad things. The east coast is fun, lots to do, and does not have the same high pressure society that the west coast does. You are free to be yourself! Baltimore is like a small New York. Plenty to do, but Baltimore County is a very peaceful part of Baltimore. Hope you really do move here. All I can say is WELCOME!!!

  59. He says that the people of Baltimore care about their community, ????? Did he not see the riots where the people destroyed their own city, I’m not saying everyone had a part in that, but give me a break, it irritates me that people see a tragedy and take what they see and hear right away nobody wants to research and find the truth on their own, the riots in Baltimore were a simple way for bad people taking advantage of an awful tragedy, now since the looting, there have been unimaginable overdoses because of the pharmacies that were looted, small business’s robbed and store clerks beaten half to death if you happened to be white and in the general area you had to run for your life, there were numerous innocent people white and black murdered beaten and even rapped during the Baltimore riots and nobody cares about that, I seriously doubt that the Grey family would have wanted any more violence to be brought on by their sons death. The community is stronger now, thank God, but time will tell, hopefully baltimore will recover, Baltimore is a beautiful city, BELIEVE the community will show everyone that the people are better than they were during that tragic time.

    1. JoeyD you are a liar! NO ONE was killed, beaten or raped during the unrest. It was no riot it was teenagers out of control. Who was running for their lives? What innocent people were being attacked? The fires and looting was in a small concentrated area. Our city didn’t go up in flames. Our well trained BCFD made sure of that! Do your research! To everyone on here negatively judging my city you sound as if you’ve never spent a significant amount of time here, or you were not strong enough to thrive… So I ask this would you all prefer he move to a more reserved, safe, quiet country town like Waco, Texas? Sure he wouldn’t have to worry about TEENAGERS throwing rocks and doing smash and grabs… BUT he will have to watch out for the over 100 WHITE MIDDLE AGED MEN engaging in a full blown shootout with rival motorcycle GANGS and POLICE!! Such as the one in 2015 where 9 people were killed over 100 weapons were found and over 100 arrested… 30-55 year old white men… shootout… at restaurant… w/families and kids present… NO bloods or crips… NO BGF… NO “thugs”… NO riot gear…. NO tear gas…. NO handcuffed suspects thrown on ground…. NO HANDCUFFS…. No WACO bashing!….. smh the Devil is a liar.

      1. You’re delusional, white flight has upticked 500% and housing values have crashed into the toilet.

  60. PEOPLE NEED TO LEAVE THERE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AT THE DOOR .THE MAN DIDN’T GET WERE HE IS BY BEING STUPID ,I,M SURE HE HAS HIS SHIT COVERED.THERE IS A LOT OF BEAUTY IN Baltimore AND THE MAN SEE,S IT.LIVE AND LET LIVE.

  61. So Marshall…..do you moving to here/Baltimore or you changed your mind?
I moved to Baltimore from Hungary and the city treats me/my art very well. If you want to read some of my story what I gone through and why I am here read my old blog what I stop writing on since July 2012 for a reason…. http://www.mgmart.blogspot.com
