Casper & B. – Pancake @casperandb

Casper & B. release a high energy Dance/Rap song in “Pancake” with a totally unique style. The visual for the video is equally unique and shocking, as they bust into a restaurant kitchen with 7 twerking girls before the police get called on them.

LA Based Producers/Rappers Casper & B. expertly balance rap, dance, and pop strictly on their terms. Mixing Neptunes and Lil Jon fundamentals with nuances of hyphy, go-go, Lite Feet, New Orleans bounce, and marching band sounds, the two have taken their experiences working professionally in both hip hop and pop to create a hybrid sound of their own they’re calling “Trunk Music” (Twerk/Trap/Crunk). Paired with their shocking videos of girls twerking in restaurants, its clear you won’t want to sleep on these guys.

The two were recognized early for their unique sound and signed to Control Music Group Management (Awful Records, Hudson Mohawke, Phoenix) and BMG for a joint publishing deal with pop songwriter Busbee (Katy Perry, Timbaland) while still in their junior year of college. “At the time, we weren’t exactly into pop; we were creating a underground hip-hop like Pete Rock and J Dilla with dubstep, but they saw something in us,” explains Casper.

The pair would soon be commissioned to produce songs for the likes of Jordin Sparks, Michelle Branch, and Jason Derulo, among others. B notes, “Only a couple of those songs were released. But in that time, we really started mastering the craft.” Despite their success making pop records, they longed to get back to their roots in hip-hop and split ways with management to take sessions with lesser known artists who were more in tune with their aesthetic, such as OG Swaggerdick and Michael Christmas. “The hip-hop we make now is more electronic because of our earlier drum n’ bass influenced days. It’s more melodic and has catchier hooks derived from our time working in pop. We really stopped making what we thought people wanted to hear and making some weird combination of all our favorite music,” explains B.

They started DJ’ing renowned parties around Los Angeles and producing records for this emerging crop of Hip-Hop talent while working on their debut project Low Battery Summer, released in 2016, which features Pell, Charles Hamilton, Michael Christmas, Marc E. Bassy, and more, demonstrates how Casper and B expertly flip pop and classical sensibilities on their head, blunted with bass drops and breakdowns.

Since then they’ve landed cuts with Kiiara, Waka Flocka, and TLC, including two number 1 singles in Canada and Korea, and done remixes for top DJs including A-Trak, Flosstradamus, and Dillon Francis.

Trunk Music is the music they’ve wanted to the world to hear. Having worked together in top-of- the-line studios and sweaty party houses, this duo have taken their myriad experiences to create their own sound, free of expectations and pigeonholes.
