Birdman credited the overwhelming success of the 2015 N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton” for influencing his decision to bring the Cash Money story to the big screen saying, “I think that Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are geniuses for what they have done and accomplished”. He continues to praise the west coast hip hop legends for paving the way for artists in the music and film industry saying, “For them to do that and to make it trend-setting, they opened doors for us, and I just think that what we have is way more special because we’re in modern times.”

Cash Money Records was founded in New Orleans in 1991 by the brothers whom at the time were seeking a way out of street life and trying to create positive opportunities for young men living in New Orleans housing projects. Speaking of the label’s journey Slim said, “There’s a lot of things that people don’t know that we went through, things that happened behind the scenes of the company, things that happened before we were with Universal.” He continues, “So we got a lot of stories, but the way I’m putting it together is gonna be great.”
