Chicago Bulls Matched $1M Donation to Schools
When Chance the Rapper made a call-to-arms to every major company in Chicago and across the United States, someone finally answered the call of duty. In a press conference this Friday, March 31 at Paul Robeson high school, he revealed that the Chicago Bulls has matched his $1 Million dollar donation to Chicago Public Schools. In the same breath, he has also announced his New Chance Arts and Literature Fund which will partner with Ingenuity Inc. in an effort to seek out and provide financial resources to CPS schools “in desperate need of an arts program,” Chance said. [NFL] NY Giants Release WR Victor Cruz
After spending the first seven years of his career with the New York Giants, wide receiver Victor Cruz has been released. Cruz had a breakout season in 2011, where he caught 82 passes for 1,536 yards, and greatly contributed to the Giants’ Super Bowl XLVI win over the New England Patriots. Known for his trademark “salsa dance”, Cruz suffered a devastating injury in 2014 and has struggled to regain his Pro-Bowl level play, culminating in 39 catches for 586 and only one touchdown this season. After 13 active NFL seasons, which exclude his infamous two years suspended from the game and incarcerated for his involvement in a dog fighting ring, Michael Vick has declared himself officially retired from pro football. Vick’s exit from the game, which comes following a year on hiatus, was formally announced by ESPN’s Josina Anderson on Friday, February 3. NFL Will Smith’s Killer Found Guilty
Cardell Hayes, the man who shot and killed New Orleans Saints star, Will Smith, was found guilty of manslaughter. Hayes argued that he was acting in self-defense in the road rage incident; however, the claim was rejected by a 12-person jury after a weeklong trial, and now faces up to 20-40 years in prison. Cam Newton rented an $11 million mansion back in March after the Carolina Panthers’ Super Bowl loss to the Denver Broncos. He reportedly paid $123,000 to rent the mansion for 61 days and agreed there would be no parties, no smoking, and no more than eight guests. Newton allegedly didn’t adhere to the agreement.
