Dol Ikara – White Queen

Dol Ikara lures viewers into an intriguingly sensual web via her latest video, “White Queen”, directed by Braedon Speakman and produced by Rockton Road.

Inspired by the divine feminine, gothic and antique imagery, and the organic fecundity of nature, Dol Ikara brings timely themes to this day and age of non-violence, gentle strength and female empowerment. Dol Ikara — the musical project of Claire Roddy — harkens back to the unfolding of music made decades ago, as each song is recorded live. The sound pulls from many sources, from dark wave to gothic rock to post-rock. Various musical influences include Mazzy Star, Sonic Youth, Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, Kate Bush, and classic rock bands such as Led Zeppelin.

Claire studied music at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and now studies literature in Los Angeles. A poet, as well, she is very driven by the beauty of phonetics in her composition of lyrics, which ultimately brought about the birth of her moniker for this project. Dol Ikara is therefore a neologism — something simply phonetically beautiful, acting as a blank canvas in order to hold the innate essence of this project without any preconceived notions or associations.
