Eddie Jayy – Stranger Than Fiction @EddieJayyMusic
Eddie Jayy makes his climatic return with the release of the 5 track EP effort, “Stranger Than Fiction”.
Stranger Than Fiction is my reintroduction to music. I had taken a year off to find some inspiration and perspective. Over that year my search led me to some serious self discovery. Mainly the understanding that pain and purpose are equal parts of the equation of life. So much of my pitfalls and lack of inspiration was due to me hiding my flaws and fears, my brokenness and anger from the people around me.
One of my all time favorite films is PULP FICTION. There is this running theme of “moments of realization” as well as this journey where all paths lead to the same timeline and crossover. It felt so true to what i had been discovering within myself. It also has an iconic soundtrack. My producer, David Grants (Strange Music, Beluga Heights, Jarren Benton), and myself decided to sample some of the most classic track and re-imagine them in a more current sound.
This whole EP is me almost telling myself all of my own vices and flaws, a kind of “Sam Jackson diner scene monologue” with myself: “See, now I’m thinking: maybe it means you’re the evil man. And I’m the righteous man. And Mr. 9mm here… he’s the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could mean you’re the righteous man and I’m the shepherd and it’s the world that’s evil and selfish. And I’d like that. But that shit ain’t the truth. The truth is you’re the weak. And I’m the tyranny of evil men. But I’m tryin’, Ringo. I’m tryin’ real hard to be the shepherd.”
Ultimately, this EP is about self acceptance, discovery and purpose. I hope people can see a bit of themselves in it and it proves that we all find our freedom when we accept that being a WHOLE HUMAN means accepting yourself in its entirety. It’s also just an all around bad ass sonic creation. Super unique for the genre of hip hop and a labor of fun and love of culture.
