Here is a short interview segment giving insight behind the Gary, Indiana rapper, MackTastic.
-WHEN DID YOU FIRST START MAKING MUSIC
I started doing music when I was about 7 years old. I started off with simple piano melodies like “Mary had a little lamb” or “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”.
-WHO TAUGHT YOU PIANO
My mother started playing piano for the church we went to. She’s the one who started me on piano. I then took what I learned from her and wanted to enroll into performances. I took a piano class when I was 9 and had numerous talent shows and recitals.
-WHAT MADE YOU KEEP MAKING MUSIC
I was in 6th grade when I decided that music would be a forever thing that I did. I joined band at Lake Ridge Middle School and played first chair in every instrument I played (trumpet, saxophone, percussion, etc). I then went to Calumet High School to continue my passion in music.
-WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT
My biggest accomplishment was in 2016, where I made a track called “Moon People” that went viral. I sampled the artist named Desiigner’s freestyle vocals and turned them into a song. He liked the track and from then on it took off.
-WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS IN MUSIC
My goal is to shift hiphop into a different direction. I want to make an undeniable sound for myself as well as other artists. I aim to be one of the few people who can write and producer their own music.
-WHAT/WHO MOTIVATES YOU
Anything can motivate or inspire me. Most of my inspiration comes from just living life or reminiscing about past experiences. I love to create sound from scratch.
-ANY PROJECTS OUT NOW/COMING SOON
I have one project out called MTE that I released early 2017. I have a video out to one of the singles on MTE called “Look At Me” on Youtube.
-WHERE DID THE MASK COME FROM. WHATS THE MEANING?
The mask is really a M for my name but it goes deeper. Its really who I keep in a cage locked away. Like, here’s my regular everyday self and here’s the mask. The person who I’ve always been but didn’t want to be at the same time. The mask represents the edge and aggression I’ve always had but had to put away because of society. People who are passionate don’t always get a positive response at first.
