Rapper Gunned Down on Southside Chicago
Five people were shot while filming a music video on the South Side of Chicago overnight, with one of the victims falling casualty to the violence. Aspiring rapper Damond Dawson, 23, was pronounced dead on arrival after the shooting broke out at Foster Park just before 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Two of the victims, men ages 18 and 25, were grazed, while a 20-year-old man was shot nine times in the leg. The fifth victim is a 19-year-old woman who was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center with two shots to the groin. She is in critical condition.
The group was recording a video for the song “Two Techs and a 50 Shot”. An artist by the name of Foreign Lyfe explained that they were in the action of filming when they were ambushed. “I heard my homie say that he had seen somebody pulling up or whatever. We turned around and look back again, quick as we looked back, they started shooting. Shots coming from everywhere,” he said.
Authorities speculate the [Auburn Gresham neighborhood] shooting may have been gang-related, but no motive has been declared. The video was turned over for investigation. No one has been taken into police custody.
