According to TheJasmineBRAND, songwriter David Ford claimed he co-wrote Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” along with other numerous tracks from the Mack Daddy album. Ford claimed Mix-A-Lot “chose one of the beats created and supplied by plaintiff to be the beat for the song ‘Baby Got Back,’ a Grammy-award winning and much acclaimed song. In addition to composing the beat, plaintiff also provided ‘scratching’ for the chorus of the song and a solo.” He also claimed to not have realized he wasn’t registered as a co-author on the track until Nicki released “Anaconda” in 2014.

Washington Federal Court Judge Robert Lasnik called Ford’s lawsuit ridiculous and “frivolous or, at the very least, motivated by an unfair desire to cash in on the efforts of another.” He also mentioned the fact that Ford “remained silent for two decades, never asserting that he was an author until a lucrative license was obtained by defendants” before dismissing the case entirely.
