“Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Me” Trailer
Michel’le is ready to tell her story. The singer, who rose to fame in the late 1980s hip-hop world alongside N.W.A., narrates Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le, a Lifetime original movie based on her tumultuous life in and out of the limelight.
Directed by Janice Cooke (One Tree Hill, UnREAL), the film follows Michel’le (played by Lincoln Heights’ Rhyon Nicole Brown) from her early days in Los Angeles to her success with N.W.A., the hip-hop group whose journey was chronicled in 2015’s breakout biopic Straight Outta Compton.
At the height of her success, Michel’le dated N.W.A. member Dr. Dre (Curtis Hamilton), a relationship critics said the Oscar-nominated film glossed over. (Dre later apologized for his alleged abuse of Michel’le, Denise “Dee” Barnes, and “the women I’ve hurt.”) Produced for Lifetime by Thinkfactory Media and Sony Pictures Television, Surviving Compton will delve into the decade-long relationship, as well as Michel’le’s subsequent life of alcohol, drugs, and violence.
The film also features R. Marcos Taylor reprising his role as Suge Knight from Straight Outta Compton and Jamie Kennedy as music manager Jerry Heller. Surviving Compton premieres Saturday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime. –
