Eminem to Donate Lawsuit Proceeds to Hurricane Relief
On Wednesday (Oct. 25) it was reported that New Zealand’s National Party would have to award the publishing company Eight Mile Style about $415K, after using a song similar to “Lose Yourself” in a 2014 advert. Now, one of Em’s rep has said that the Detroit rapper will be donating all of those proceeds to hurricane relief. The rep was sure to clarify that Eminem did not file the lawsuit against the government himself, “Eminem was not a party to this lawsuit nor was he consulted regarding the case. New Zealand Political Party Forced to Pay Eminem $415K
In a decision that legal experts say may spell out doom for so-called ‘sound-alike music,’ a New Zealand judge has ordered the country’s main conservative political party to pay Eminem’s publisher for their use of a song that closely mimics the 8-Mile song “Lose Yourself,” during a 2014 campaign run. The National Party purchased a tune called “Eminem-esque” from the stock music library, Beatbox, for its parallels to the movie-score track. Beatbox is known for selling well-known tunes that are tweaked in an attempt to avoid lawsuits over breach of copyright laws. Eminem Selling Pieces Of Childhood Home
Eminem is selling pieces of wood and brick from his childhood house as collectible items to honor the 16th anniversary of his Marshall Mathers LP. The materials were recovered the rap star’s old home in 2013 when the building was demolished after being found structurally unsound. They are being sold at Eminem’s official website with packages including a cassette re-release of the 2000 album with a 3-D motion-printed cover. The bricks are limited to 700 and come in a plexiglass enclosure with a commemorative plaque on the side.
