The man born Chad Butler, aka J.R. Ewing, Jack Tripper, Mick Jagger, Tony Snow, Sweet (James) Jones and most famously Pimp C, was one-half of the monumental Southern rap duo Underground Kingz (UGK), who, alongside DJ Screw, Swisha House and Three 6 Mafia, revolutionized hip-hop in the ’90s with their instantly recognizable meshing of hip-hop hi-hats and 808s with soul ballads, chopped and screwed down to a smooth, purple-stained tempo. During a recent sit-down with Wendy Williams, 2 Chainz spoke openly about the death of Bankroll Fresh, who was signed to Street Execs, a company 2 Chainz is also affiliated with. Former UFC champion Kevin Randleman passed away on Thursday (Feb. 11) after suffering with a bout of pneumonia. According to several reports, the 44-year-old died of heart failure after being admitted to a San Diego hospital earlier in the day.

With barely two months into 2016, the music industry has already seen a bevy of powerful losses. Maurice White, founding member of Earth, Wind & Fire passed away in his sleep today at age 74. The Memphis native was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the late ‘80s, forcing him off the stage by 1994. He founded Earth, Wind & Fire in 1969, and is the older brother of fellow member Verdine White. He was also a producer, co-lead singer, and main writer for the group. Born in December 1941, he would relocate from Tennessee to Chicago after high school.
