Cardell Hayes, the man who shot and killed New Orleans Saints star, Will Smith, was found guilty of manslaughter. Hayes argued that he was acting in self-defense in the road rage incident; however, the claim was rejected by a 12-person jury after a weeklong trial, and now faces up to 20-40 years in prison. According to NFL.com, the 29-year-old former tow truck driver and semi-pro football player was also convicted of attempted manslaughter for wounding Smith’s wife, Racquel Smith and will be sentenced in February. Former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith was shot and killed late Saturday in New Orleans, according to the Times-Picayune. He was 34. New Orleans police said Smith and his wife were the victims of a double shooting about 11:29 p.m. Saturday in the city’s Lower Garden District, the Times-Picayune reports. Smith and his wife reportedly were in their Mercedes SUV when a Hummer H2 struck their vehicle.
