Remy Ma returned for the eighth season of Love & Hip Hop: New York, which premiered last night (Oct. 30) on VH1. In music related news, the Bronx rapper has signed a multi-million dollar deal with Columbia Records. The label will release Rem’s first solo effort since her release from prison in 2014. New Zealand Political Party Forced to Pay Eminem $415K
In a decision that legal experts say may spell out doom for so-called ‘sound-alike music,’ a New Zealand judge has ordered the country’s main conservative political party to pay Eminem’s publisher for their use of a song that closely mimics the 8-Mile song “Lose Yourself,” during a 2014 campaign run. The National Party purchased a tune called “Eminem-esque” from the stock music library, Beatbox, for its parallels to the movie-score track. Beatbox is known for selling well-known tunes that are tweaked in an attempt to avoid lawsuits over breach of copyright laws. Colin Kaepernick Lands $1 Million Book Deal
Colin Kaepernick has inked a book deal worth just over $1 million with Random House imprint One World, according to Page Six. One World is headed by book world superstar Chris Jackson who launched it last year. He also publishes JAY-Z and Ta-Nehisi Coates. It was previously reported that Kaepernick was seen “taking meetings with publishers in the New York offices of WME” to shop the planned book. Carlos Fleming reps Kaepernick as an athlete, the book deal went through Andy McNicol on the Hollywood agency literary department, according to the publication. Lil Jon Opens Primary School in Ghana
Lil Jon moved beyond the entertainment realm with his latest project. The famed producer opened a primary school for children in Ghana which he’s been raising money for quite some time. Lil Jon teamed up with Pencils of Promise or PoP, to open up the school in the Asuogyaman district of eastern Ghana.
