New Zealand Political Party Forced to Pay Eminem $415K
In a decision that legal experts say may spell out doom for so-called ‘sound-alike music,’ a New Zealand judge has ordered the country’s main conservative political party to pay Eminem’s publisher for their use of a song that closely mimics the 8-Mile song “Lose Yourself,” during a 2014 campaign run. The National Party purchased a tune called “Eminem-esque” from the stock music library, Beatbox, for its parallels to the movie-score track. Beatbox is known for selling well-known tunes that are tweaked in an attempt to avoid lawsuits over breach of copyright laws. The rise of Chance The Rapper has been a rapid one. The rapper has managed to garner critical praise for his Coloring Book album along with him setting up initiatives to raise money for the Chicago Public School system. Beyoncé was hit with another lawsuit, this time for her use of the Roc-A-Fella logo. Dwayne Walker, the creator of the logo, says Bey never asked for his permission to use it in the 2013 music video for her hit song “Drunk in Love.” Walker claims the logo is prominently displayed in the video and he wants her to take it down or pay him for its use, according to TMZ. Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa Sued Over Fence Collapse
Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa are being sued for egging on concert-goers just before a railing collapsed at one of their concerts. The two artists are being sued by 17 attendees, who claim they were injured when the fencing collapsed during “The High Road” tour in Camden, New Jersey, on Aug. 5, according to TMZ. Snoop and Wiz reportedly yelled “Everybody in the motherf——g grass, bring your a– down here,” just before the fencing broke, according to the lawsuit. An artist by the name of Ivan Beslic is now accusing Rick Ross of stealing 2 paintings. Ross’s team says this is complete BS. Beslic says during a event that Ross had in Germany, he had a section set up for his artwork. He claims to have spotted Ross looking at two paintings. 50 Cent might want to hold on to his dollars. The rapper and Dr. Dre are being sued by a music producer, TMZ is reporting. Brandon “Dirty Bird” Parrott wants Fiddy (born Curtis Jackson III) and Dre to fork over cash from their hit single, “P.I.M.P.” Parrott was told in 2003 that Dre’s label, Aftermath used his track “BAMBA” in the hit song, featuring Snoop Dogg and appearing on Fiddy’s debut album, “Get Rich or Die Tryin’.” The only problem, according to a producer, is that they forgot to tell him it was Parrot’s track before the final edits so he wasn’t credited. Busta Rhymes Being Sued by Former Driver
A former Marine is suing Busta Rhymes for being verbally abused by the rapper while working as his driver. Rhymes frequently insulted David Jones, 57, for his age during the two years that he drove him, according to Page Six.
