Melly Rose became the first soca artist to be featured on BET Soul, MTV, and New York Times

Festivities and adoration are in the air as Melly Rose, a Trinidadian singer, makes into BET Soul’s official lineup after the release of her puissant song, ‘Body Good.’ The song attracted so much attention worldwide that even MTV and New York Times couldn’t fathom letting this one slip. Melly Rose has made a quantum leap in her ambition to become a well-known soca singer with the placement of the video for her song ‘Body Good’ to BET Soul’s lineup.
Melly Rose and Kit Israel of Advokit Production collaboratively produced ‘Body Good,’ which is indeed soulful and powerful soca fused song.

‘Body Good’ disseminates the message of body positivity, self-acceptance, and most importantly, women empowerment. The graphics in the music video also purposefully depict and intend to create a conversation about black women being loved and appreciated regardless of their appearance.

Visuals of black ladies with diverse skin tones and body shapes can be seen throughout the numerous scenarios in the original music video. Melly Rose also expresses her support for the worldwide Black Lives Matter movement.
An image of “#BLM” on Rose’s nail shows on the screen at the opening of the music video for “Body Good.” Then other black women emerge, one of them is wearing a cap similar to the one used by the ladies of the Black Panther Party, and her fist is raised, pointing towards the sky.

“Women of color are placed under a microscope, and for years we have been struggling to stand out and be celebrated and accepted,” Melly explained through a press release.

Racism and discrimination, especially against women of color, is a subject close to the Trinidad-born singer, actual name Melissa St Rose. Melly was brought up in the United States until she decided to quit her life there to pursue a career as an entertainer in her origin country.

Rose learned classical music at the Baltimore School of the Arts and then used her musical talents to support herself while studying Business Management and Music at Morgan State University. When her instructor questioned her about what she wanted to do after graduating, she answered she would love to sing soca.

“I love soca. I love my culture, the music, and the food. I’m a little bit extra in relation to the way I dress, and I love colored hair. When it came to the crucial point of what type of music I wanted to do what genre, I knew I really wanted to do soca. I want to go home and do soca,” Melly recalled in an interview.

By releasing ‘Body Good,’ a masterpiece single, Melly Rose lets her rage out to speak on sensitive issues, issues that she has seen her whole life. Melly is an ingenious artist, and in the future, we can only expect more creativity and more accolades coming in her direction.
