Wendell Pierce Arrested
Wendell Pierce, who became famous for playing Baltimore detective Bunk Moreland on HBO’s beloved show The Wire, was arrested late Saturday after he allegedly beat up two people for being Bernie Sanders supporters, according to TMZ.
The actor — who also just starred as Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in the critically adored HBO film Confirmation, based on the events of the Anita Hill scandal during his confirmation process to the Supreme Court — began conversing with an unnamed man and his girlfriend at 3:30 a.m. in the lobby of the Lowes hotel in Atlanta.
Lamentably, the innocent conversation eventually turned to politics, where things quickly took a frightening turn.
Pierce, known for being a vocal Hillary supporter, reportedly became violently angry when the woman expressed her support for Bernie Sanders. Pierce has been accused of shoving the man backwards before turning to the man’s girlfriend, grabbing her hair and striking her in the head.
The couple fled to their hotel room and called security, who in turn called the police.
Pierce was arrested and booked on charges of simple battery. He quickly posted a $1,000 bond and has since been released. Pierce is currently shooting a movie in Atlanta.
Pierce’s representation was contacted by TMZ for a comment on his actions, but TMZ has not received a response.
