TODAY Show Cuts Off Janelle Monae
Singer and songwriter Janelle Monae has spoken profoundly about injustices with police and people of color recently, but her message was cut short during her latest performance on the TODAY show.
According to Huffington Post, the “Yoga” singer performed Friday morning to promote the release of The Eephus, an EP featuring Wondaland artists like “Classic Man” singer Jidenna and rock band Deep Cotton. Towards the end of her performance, the singer touched on the police brutality, but cameras promptly turned away for a commercial break.
“Yes Lord! God bless America! God bless all the lost lives to police brutality,” she said. “We want white America to know that we stand tall today. We want black America to know we stand tall today. We will not be silenced…”
While Janelle’s message wasn’t televised, the singer has held rallies in New York and Philadelphia this week, speaking out against police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement. She also released “Hell You Talmbout,” an ode to Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, Aiyana Jones and others killed by the police on Wednesday.
